impression of the
oesophagus caused by
congenital anomalies like
vascular rings due to aortic arch anomalies. Another not infrequent cause is an anomalous right innominate
artery (a. lusoria) (
Fig.1). In this entity the right subclavian
artery leaves the
aorta to the left and distal to the left subclavian
artery. It courses behind the
oesophagus and to the right. Patients with this anomaly may have dysphagia but most are asymptomatic.
