Gastrointestinal ImagingCarcinosarcoma

malignant cells of epithelial and mesenchymatous origin. This
tumour is very rare and has predominantly been observed in men over 50 years old. The main site is the lower
oesophagus. Isolated cases have also been reported with localization in the gallbladder and stomach. Carcinosarcoma of the liver is called hepatoblastoma.
Oesophageal carcinosarcomas present on barium study as bulky, polypoid, nonulcerated lesions, which may be pedunculated and frequently cause dilatation of the proximal oesophagus. Their radiological appearance cannot be distinguished from that of large polypoid adenocarcinomas or fibromuscular polyps of the oesophagus.
