Billroth i procedure

(Christian Albert Theodor Billroth, 1829 - 1894, German surgeon), hemigastrectomy or antrectomy, which removes a significant bulk of the parietal cell mass and the gastrin-secreting antrum, and is completed by an end-to-end gastroduodenostomy (Fig.1). This procedure aims to restore continuity between stomach and duodenum without losing too much of the stomach lumen and without adversely affecting the normal mechanisms of gastric emptying.
