Gastrointestinal ImagingAppendicitis, chronic
persistent chronic
inflammation of the appendix. It is a rare condition but
pathological reports seem to indicate that this
pathological entity does probably exist. It can occur in patients with
cystic fibrosis due to accumulation of abnormal mucoid material in the appendix. In some patients recurrent self-resolving bouts of acute appendicitis may result in chronic
inflammation of the appendix. This may also be the case if the appendix has been incompletely removed during previous surgery, which should not, however, occur if correct surgical techniques are used.
