Musculoskeletal ImagingTranslocation
the transfer of an entity from one site or direction to another.
Type II fractures of the condyles of the humerus allow translocation of the radius and the ulna in a mediolateral direction and are termed fracture dislocations.
In carpal injuries, ulnar translocation occurs when the carpus shifts in an ulnar direction, which may follow severe capsular injury or articular disorders such as rheumatoid arthritis. Dorsal carpal translocation is usually associated with malunited fractures involving the dorsal rim of the radius and the radial styloid process. Palmar carpal translocation accompanies Bartons fractures or disruptions of the volar rim of the radius.
Vertical translocation of the odontoid process results from disruption and collapse of bone and joint structures between the occiput and the atlas and between the atlas and the axis. It is seen in some persons with rheumatoid arthritis.
