Shepherd's crook deformity

an abnormality of the femur occurring in persons with osteogenesis imperfecta and fibrous dysplasia (Fig.1). In this condition, pronounced curvature of the femoral neck and proximal end of the femur leads to severe coxa valga deformity. In some cases leg length discrepancies occur. Other manifestations include undergrowth or overgrowth of bones and adjacent soft tissues.

AP radiograph of the hip demonstrates a bowing deformity in the proximal femur that resembles a shepherd's crook. Osteolytic lesions in the proximal femur, lateral ilium, and contralateral pubis are the result of fibrous dysplasia.
