Sever's phenomenon

(James Warren Sever, 18781864, American orthopaedic surgeon), the presence of fragmentation and sclerosis of the secondary ossification centre of the calcaneus, which may be a normal consequence of proper weight-bearing (Fig.1). These bone findings may be absent in persons who are immobilized and reappear when activity is resumed.
