an enteric Gram-negative bacillus that may cause infections involving the musculoskeletal system. Persons with other underlying conditions, such as diabetes mellitus, rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus,
trauma or
ischaemic necrosis of bone, may be especially vulnerable. Radiographs may reveal nonspecific findings soft tissue swelling,
osteoporosis and bone destruction.
