Salter osteotomy

a surgical cutting of the innominate bone in the treatment of developmental dysplasia of the hip DDH . This operation is performed in patients with persistent subluxation and mild to moderate acetabular dysplasia. The acetabulum is reorientated without changing its size or shape.

The osteotomy is performed in a horizontal plane across the pelvis, just above the acetabulum. The pelvic components are rotated forward and laterally as a unit using the pubic symphysis as a hinge axis and a bone block to maintain the open wedge.

On postoperative radiographs a marked asymmetry is observed between the two iliac wings and obturator foramina, which becomes progressively less pronounced with time.
