Rice bodies

detached synovial villi lying within the joint cavity, which resemble grains of rice. These bodies vary in consistency, size and shape. Ultimately they may be found to contain coarse collagenous fibers, reticulin and elastin. Rice bodies may occur in patients with rheumatoid arthritis and other types of joint disease, such as tuberculous arthritis, agammaglobulinaemia and hypogammaglobulinaemia.
