Proximal femoral focal deficiency

a spectrum of conditions in which the proximal portion of the femur is partly absent and shortened; the distal end of the bone is normal (Fig.1). Several types are distinguished according to the presence or absence and location of the femoral head and neck. Both radiography and arthrography may be required to identify the specific type. (See aplasia (III:1), Fig. 3)
