Posterior lumbar interbody fusion

a type of spinal arthrodesis involving interbody grafting of the lumbar spine using a posterior approach. Most frequently autologous bone grafts from the ilium are used as tricortical or cortical cylindrical dowels. In some cases iliac or fibular strut grafts provide more stable immediate fixation; likewise metallic fixation devices have been used with success at the level of the disc space in some patients.
