Pes planus deformity

flatfoot deformity, or the condition in which one or more of the arches of the foot have fallen (Fig.1). Among the conditions in which this disorder occurs are Ehlers Danlos syndrome, Marfans syndrome (see Marfan's syndrome (III:1), Fig. 2), osteogenesis imperfecta and rheumatoid arthritis. In addition, this deformity may follow injury to the tibialis posterior tendon.

Lateral radiograph of the foot demonstrates a flattened arch. Also noted is the presence of massive soft tissue overgrowth owing to the presence of macrodystrophia lipomatosa. Extensive ossification in the Achilles tendon and plantar fascia is also present.
