Peritendinitis

inflammation of a peritenon, which may occur spontaneously or as a consequence of a systemic disorder such as rheumatoid arthritis. The Achilles tendon is particularly susceptible owing to its relative avascularity. The abnormality may be acute or chronic. Chronic peritendinitis of the Achilles tendon is associated with adhesions between the peritenon and adjacent Achilles tendon.
