Musculoskeletal ImagingOsteopoikilosis
an asymptomatic osteosclerotic dysplasia that may either be inherited or occur sporadically. Some patients exhibit fibrocollagenous infiltrations, keloids, and scleroderma-like lesions. Radiographically, small, well-defined, ovoid foci of increased radiodensity are observed clustered in periarticular regions of bone (
Fig.1). The epiphyses and metaphyses of long and short
tubular bones, carpus, tarsus,
pelvis and scapulae are sites affected most commonly. Possibly a relationship exists between this condition and other osteosclerotic skeletal disorders, especially
osteopathia striata and
melorheostosis, a combination of abnormalities that has been termed
mixed sclerosing bone dystrophy.
