Musculoskeletal Imaging
Onion-peel pattern
a
radiographic
abnormality occurring after an exuberant periosteal response, such as occurs in
Ewings sarcoma
,
periostitis
,
osteomyelitis
or
bone tumours
, such as
osteosarcoma
. This appearance results from the presence of multiple layers of new bone. Concentric layers of laminated new bone occur, which possibly represent alternating periods of slow and rapid growth.
