Myelopathy

a nonspecific term relating to functional disturbance or pathologic change in the spinal cord; alternatively, pathologic changes in the bone marrow may occur.

Myelopathy is one of the categories of lesions in rheumatoid arthritis. It can result from a number of mechanisms: direct involvement (vasculitis, rheumatoid nodules), vertebral subluxation, or miscellaneous causes (haemorrhage, infection).

Post-traumatic progressive myelopathy refers to a syndrome characterized by delayed onset of progressive spasticity and dysfunction of motor and sensory nerves after injury to the spinal cord. Among the effects of this injury are atrophy, syringomyelia, myelomalacia, arachnoid cyst and tethering of the spinal cord by adhesions. Malaligment and retropulsion of fracture fragments may also occur.
