Mueller - weiss syndrome

spontaneous atraumatic osteonecrosis of the tarsal navicular bone in adults. On radiographs medial or dorsal protrusion of part or all of the navicular bone and a comma-shaped deformity due to collapse of the lateral portion of the bone are evident (Fig.1). Pathologic fractures are also seen in this disease. Mueller Weiss syndrome differs from the well-recognized osteochondrosis of the tarsal navicular bone occurring in children, also termed Kohlers disease. The cause is unknown; patients may have severe and sometimes devastating pain, disability and progressive deformity.
