Musculoskeletal ImagingMucormycosis
a commonly fatal infection caused by several types of fungus of the class
Phycomycetes. This infection occurs in association with debilitating illnesses. Usually the fungi gain entrance via the
paranasal sinuses, from which site infection can spread to the retro-orbital tissues and
cerebrum. Several clinical varieties of mucormycosis are recognized (rhinocerebral,
pulmonary, alimentary, disseminated). Bone abnormalities are generally confined to the skull and the face, predominantly about the maxillary and ethmoid sinuses.
