an arthropathy in which the intra-articular deposition of calcium hydroxyapatite crystals results in release of enzymes (collagenase and neutral protease) that adversely affect periarticular glenohumeral joint tissues, including the rotator cuff. Subsequently disruption of the rotator cuff ensues (Fig.1).
