Lordosis

a curvature of the spine in the anterior direction as viewed from the side, which may be normal in the lumbar and cervical spine or abnormally increased (swayback). The degree of curvature can be measured by constructing lines along the vertebral endplates on lateral radiographs.

Lordosis may be congenital owing to fusion of the posterior neural elements with continued anterior growth of the vertebra, or it may accompany acromegaly, ankylosing spondylitis, cerebral palsy, hyperflexion sprain and stress on the pars interarticularis.
