Juxtacortical chondroma

a benign tumour or tumour-like mass that forms cartilage or develops on the surface of a bone. This tumour is also termed a periosteal chondroma. Juxtacortical chondromas are usually symptomatic (local swelling and pain) and affect primarily the long tubular bones, frequently at sites of insertion of tendons or ligaments on bones. Most often the metaphysis is involved. On radiographs the lesions appear as a soft tissue mass eroding the adjacent cortex. Calcification is common, and medullary sclerosis and periostitis may be observed.
