Involucrum

a radiographic feature in osteomyelitis referring to a lesion in which a layer of living bone surrounds the dead bone. The involucrum may eventually merge with the parent bone, or an opening (cloaca or tract) may develop through which pus, granulation tissue and sequestra are discharged. A tract leading from bone to the skin surface is termed a fistula or sinus.
