a
radiographic feature in
osteomyelitis referring to a
lesion in which a layer of living bone surrounds the dead bone. The involucrum may eventually merge with the parent bone, or an opening (
cloaca or tract) may develop through which pus, granulation tissue and sequestra are discharged. A tract leading from bone to the skin surface is termed a
fistula or
sinus.
