Musculoskeletal ImagingIntraosseous nerve syndrome
an
entrapment neuropathy involving either the anterior interosseous branch of the medial nerve or the posterior interosseous branch of the radial nerve.
The anterior interosseous nerve syndrome, also known as Kiloh Nevin syndrome, results from compression of the anterior nerve and leads to weakness of the thumb and index finger. The syndrome may be idiopathic or occur as a result of aberrant fibrous bands, after fractures of the radius or humerus, or in association with thrombosed vessels or enlarged bursae.
The posterior interosseous nerve syndrome results from compression of the posterior nerve just distal to the elbow as it passes into the supinator muscle. Among the causes of this entrapment neuropathy are dislocations of the elbow, fractures, rheumatoid arthritis, soft tissue tumours, ganglia and traumatic or developmental fibrous bands.
