Numerous types of organisms cause infection, including bacteria, viruses, fungi and mycobacteria. Infections involving the musculoskeletal system include abscess, osteomyelitis, septic arthritis, sacroiliitis, spondylitis and soft tissue infections. Infections are discussed in more detail under their specific names.
