Giant cell reparative granuloma

a soft, fleshy lesion of bone resembling giant cell tumour but following a more benign course and having somewhat different histologic features. They tend not to be aggressive, although recurrence takes place if surgery is inadequate. These tumours occur most commonly in the maxilla, mandible and sinuses but may also be seen in the hands (especially the phalanges), feet, carpus, tarsus, and long tubular bones.

On radiographs the lesions in facial bones are round and radiolucent foci; they may be expansile and contain ossification. Trabeculae may also be noted in some patients. Phalangeal lesions are osteolytic and involve the metaphysis or diaphysis; sometimes the lesion may spread to the epiphysis and subchondral bone.
