Enthesophyte

a bone excrescence at the site of tendon or ligament attachment to bone. Common sites of enthesophyte formation are given in Table 1. Hyperostosis is frequent in older patients and may occur in degenerative diseases or in diffuse idiopathic skeletal hyperostosis DISH . Such excrescences may involve the ischial tuberosity, trochanters, calcaneus, ulnar olecranon and patella. The bone outgrowth may also be called a spur. See enthesopathy (III:1), Fig. 1.
