Coventry high tibial osteotomy

resection of a wedge of bone from the metaphysis of the tibia between the knee joint and the tibial tubercle. In the patient with genu varum, the thicker part of the wedge to be removed is located laterally, so that an overall valgus alignment of the knee is achieved when the bone margins are brought together. As a consequence of tibial osteotomy, the leg is shortened, requiring that osteotomy of the fibular shaft, fibular head excision, or division of the proximal tibiofibular joint also be performed.
