Christmas disease

(Stephen Christmas, 20th century, Englishman, the first patient with the disease, who was studied in detail), a term for a type of haemophilia, or haemophilia B, in which the patient has a functional deficiency of plasma thromboplastin component or blood clotting factor IX. This condition is an X-linked recessive disorder, which is carried by women and manifested clinically in men. Many of the skeletal abnormalities, and consequently the radiographic features, of Christmas disease are identical to those of classic haemophilia.
