Trigeminal nerve

(fifth cranial nerve), a sensory and motor nerve subserving the modalities of pain, touch and temperature from the face and oral cavity and providing motor fibres to the muscles of mastication. It runs from the lateral part of the pons to the trigeminal ganglion where it divides in three nerves: the ophthalmic, maxillary and mandibular branches. See brain, infratentorial (II), Fig. 16
