the largest branch of the
coeliac axis. Often very tortuous and measures between 13 and 32 cm in length. Courses along the superior aspect of the
pancreas above the
splenic vein to supply the
spleen. At first it lies retroperitoneally behind the
lesser sac but it enters the lienorenal
ligament before entering the spleen. See
