Optic nerve

(second cranial nerve), the nerve concerned with sight. It runs in an infero-medial direction from the back of the optic globe, through the optic canal, to join the contralateral nerve in the optic chiasm. It is surrounded by the subdural and subarachnoid space of the brain.
