Mesenteric vein, inferior

continuation of the superior haemorrhoidal vein. Lies to the right side of the inferior mesenteric artery and receives the sigmoid vein and the left colic vein. It drains into the splenic vein behind the pancreatic head in 40% of individuals, into the confluence of the splenic and superior mesenteric veins in 30% and into the superior mesenteric vein in the remaining 30%.
