Gastroepiploic artery, left

arises from the distal portion of the main splenic artery or from one of its terminal branches. Descends in the anterior layers of the greater omentum along the greater curvature of the stomach where it usually anastomoses with the right gastroepiploic artery to form the arcus arteriosus ventriculi inferiori of Hyrtl. Gives rise to several epiploic arteries. See blood vessels, small intestine (II), Fig. 1
