Spoiler gradient

gradient field turned on in the end phase of a pulse sequence in MR imaging after an echo has been recorded. The spoiler gradient enhances spin dephasing, thereby destroying any transverse magnetization. This magnetization can adversely affect image quality as it will be tilted partly in the z-direction during the ensuing radiofrequency RF pulse.
