Rf spoiled

refers to a spoiled gradient echo pulse sequence in which spoiling of the coherence of the transverse magnetization Mxy is accomplished by appropriately changing the phase of the radiofrequency excitation pulse for sequential repetitions. For proper spoiling, not only should the phase be different in sequential repetitions, but the change in phase should also be different. Since the altered phase of the excitation pulse will alter the phase of the received signal, appropriate measures must be taken during either signal reception or image reconstruction. RF spoiling is generally preferred over its alternative, gradient spoiling, because it produces more homogeneous spoiling and does not require higher gradient power or longer repetition time TR .
