Ray

a line segment along which a projection is measured in computed tomography CT , as in a line between the X-ray source and a detector element. For practical purposes, the ray consists of all paths taken by all unattenuated X-ray photons between the X-ray source and a single detector element. With a small X ray tube focal spot and a detector element with a small aperture, the detected beam of X-rays can be approximated by a single X-ray path or ray. Each view is composed of a number of rays which are grouped together for reconstruction purposes.
