Wedging

1 - In radiological and cardiological angiography: Technical accident during selective angiography where the tip of the catheter enters the vessel in a way that closes off or severely reduces the blood flow. In sensitive vessels like the coronary arteries, catheter wedging may cause serious myocardial ischaemia and even myocardial infarction.
2 - In cardiology: Method of measuring the pulmonary capillary pressure by wedging the catheter in the most distal branch of the pulmonary artery during cardiac catheterisation.
