TIA
When one of the smaller blood vessels in the brain becomes blocked for a limited time this is called a transitory ischaemic attack. In most respects this is a small stroke, and may occur frequently in elderly people or in some diseases. Unlike a fully fledged stroke patients may not always be aware that they have suffered a TIA. The fact that these incidents are transitory also means that they, unlike stroke, usually resolve without treatment. A patient suffering multiple TIA may have a cumulative effect requiring treatment as for a stroke.
