Spiral CT

Also called helical CT. Variety of CT (most newer machines) where, in stead of taking one by one slice, the patient is fed slowly and evenly into the gantry (see gantry) while the X-ray tube and detector move in a continuous circle. Instead of separate slices this will result in a long spiral where each new "slice" starts where the previous "slice" ends.

Spiral CT is also significantly faster than 'conventional' CT.  Also, by reprocessing the data, it is possible to generate new slices at different angles through the body.
