Intimal tear
A wound in the vessel intima (see also dissection) . Often caused by over-stretching a vessel during angioplasty. An intimal tear will release so-called Tissue Factors (TF) that will activate the clottingcascade. An intimal tear in certain situations might appear as a filling defect on X-ray images. Intimal tear should not be confused with thromboembolism.
