Haemostasis

The term haemostasis represents all mechanisms involved in stopping bleeding, i.e. both the coagulation process and contraction of the damaged blood vessel. In haemostasis a platelet plug is first formed, thereafter the coagulation factors are activated and a fibrin mesh is formed, containing various cell elements to close the damage to the endothelium, making a secondary platelet plug.
