Artery

Blood vessel supplying oxygen- and nutrient-rich blood to all body tissues and organs. The artery wall contains smooth muscle cells enabling the artery to keep the arterial pressure also during diastole, and so pump the blood onward, thus not only depending on the pumping effect of the heart systole.
