Cavernoma, case 3
Clinical history
This 65-year-old female had a pathologically proven cavernous malformation of the skin, and a family history of multiple intracranial cavernomas. She presented with acute paraparesis.
MRI
Spinal axis MR examination diagnosed a lesion of the conus with mixed signal characteristics. On gradient-echo T2-weighted images, the lesion appears of much lower intensity than on spin-echo T2-weighted images, due to magnetic susceptibility effects.
Images 1 - 7: Axial T2WI images of brain.
The diagnosis of intramedullary cavernoma was not pathologically proven, but was supported by the family and personal history of cavernomas, and by the associated brain lesions.
