Serpentine cerebral aneurysm of the left middle cerebral artery: case report
Serpentine aneurysm, 1.5 T
This 52 year old male patient presented with recurrent headache.
As an initial screening imaging modality, MRA was performed to rule out an intracranial vascular malformation.
Fig.1 Transverse source image from a 3D TOF MRA data set, showing segmental enlargement of one of the middle cerebral artery branches on the left side, distal to the bifurcation.
Fig.2 Targeted MIP reconstructions in different projections confirm the vascular lesion, suggesting a serpentine aneurysm of the left middle cerebral artery (arrow)
Fig.3 Oblique multiplanar reconstruction (not a MIP) using the 3D TOF data set, obtained along the Sylvian fissure. This image demonstrates the shape of the aneurysm and its relationship to the parent artery as well as the adjacent brain parenchyma.
