Severe stenosis at the origin of the left internal carotid artery, 1.5 T.
Fig.1 The DSA image (left) with selective injection of the left common carotid artery shows a hemodynamically significant stenosis at the origin of the internal carotid artery (arrow). The 3D TOF MR angiogram (right) demonstrates the flow gap artifact at the level of the stenosis, due to accelerated and turbulent flow (arrow). Decreased and somewhat inhomogeneous intravascular signal is seen in the internal carotid artery distal to the stenosis, presumably due to slow poststenotic flow (arrowheads).
Fig.2 The transverse (above) and coronal (below) 3D TOF MR angiograms demonstrate low intravascular signal intensity in the carotid siphon (arrows), due to slow flow in the distal left internal carotid artery (leading to progressive intravolume spin saturation).
