M 52
SCC left piriformis sinus
Restaging after chemotherapy and radiation.
Focal increased FDG uptake in midline pretracheal lower neck (in the junction of the pharynx and larynx) consistent with postsurgical inflammation: tracheostomy removed two weeks earlier.
Teaching point:
Postsurgical inflammation may be very intense and last for weeks and months and may be difficult to discriminate from residual and recurrent disease. FDG PET is normaly not recommended until three months after surgery.
