E-learningGeneralized increased muscle uptake facilitated by both insulin and corticosteroid.
M 61 Brain metastasis with unknown primary. Diabetes type I: Long acting insulin injected 1 hr before 18F-FDG. On corticosteroid therapy (Decadron) because of brain metastasis.
Marked myocardial and generalized muscle uptake.
Teaching points:
T1: Muscle uptake will be facilitated by both insulin and corticosteroid.
T2: Non-fasting patients with high blood glucose / insulin may show high, generalized muscle uptake
T3:After exercise, the specific muscles used will show physiologic increased uptake. Strenious excersise should be avoided for 24 hours before a FDG PET study.
