Neurotoxicity
Toxic effects to the nervous system. Neurotoxicity is most critical in contrast media used for myelography. A good tolerance in myelography is a good indicator of low neurotoxicity. In intravascular injections of contrast media a low neurotoxicity is particularly important if there is damage to the Blood-Brain-Barrier. Non-ionic contrast media have a low neurotoxicity and should be preferred in patients where altered Blood-Brain-Barrier is suspected.
