BASING

BAnd Selective INversion Gradient dephasing
Option for suppression of large water or lipid signals in PROSE, though not the default option, which is SSRF (SSRF provides more consistent water, lipid, and slice selective suppression than BASING, SSRF pulses produce fewer spectral phasing artifacts, i.e., inverted or distorted (dispersive) peaks). BASING uses two 180° inversion RF pulses applied along the frequency axis and two crusher gradients with opposite polarity. 1H excited by the inversion pulses are dephased, destroying the resulting spin echo; and 1H not excited by the RF pulses are refocused by the bipolar gradient pair.
